Raymond's Children

The comic strip stars of tomorrow

Certainly not just another trophy to gather dust on the mantelpiece...”

Raymond Leblanc, founder of Tintin magazine and Belvision studios, has given a break to several generations of leading lights of Franco-Belgian comic strips.

When he was alive, the Belgian comic strip publisher — who liked to think of himself as a businessman, a talent scout and a man of projects who made things happen — had one wish, that his eponymous association (originally a foundation) would really make a difference in the comics industry today. Tintin magazine had driven the expansion and development of Franco-Belgian comics and helped establish them as an art genre in their own right. In 2006, when he was almost 91 years of age, he still wanted to make a meaningful contribution by giving his name to the Prize of Young Creators (Prix de la jeune creation). What he certainly did not want was to “create just another prize with a trophy that would gather dust on the mantelpiece”. The prize was to offer tangible assistance to launch new names in the industry. Each year, one project is awarded a grant and a publishing contract with in rotation, the publishing houses Lombard, Futuropolis and Casterman.

Today, the exhibition 'Raymond’s Children' introduces you to the up-and-coming comic strip stars of tomorrow. With artwork by the winners of the 2021 Prize, as well as former editions.
